Go into the SKetchup program--which is found on your computer under the all programs menu. Practice creating a structure of your choice. Call this SKetchup practice.

New assignment--

The Watertown paper and others have an weekly feature in which two pictures are printed. They are the same except for five changes which the viewer is supposed to find.

Find a picture or create a picture with several people or details. Keep that picture and then create a copy in which you will remove five items of your choice. Possible items are things like t-shirt logos, socks, etc. the goal is to repair the photo to the point that the missing part is not obvious. Call this missing parts.

Artistic painting	Your ability as a graphic artist is being recognized by the South Dakota Arts Council. Aged Photo	A fun assignment-- create a photo which the paper and photo have aged. Use your choice of photo. (This is a new assignment to the website but it is not a new assignment for this class.) Take a photo and put it on the first layer. Make a copy of the picture. Then, go to Google and find a page of browned parchment paper. Copy and past the picture to its own layer on the other photo. Your job will be to create a fantasy sort of castle from the real castle using the tools you can find in photoshop. Cereal	packaging design can be a big thing in the world of business. The appeal of the packaging can either provide an opportunity for a sale or can turn off a customer. Your job is to create a front and a back for a package of cereal. make it clear as to who your audience (customer) may be--and what the cereal contains. So if you want to make a product stand out, all you have to do is add white space around the product name and/or the product image or even an “Add to Bag” button. Like Nordstrom does in this screen shot:

In addition, users find it easier to focus on and process well-spaced content.

This means that you need to do two thing:

Put plenty of white space in the margins.
Ensure the copy is suitably laid out with white space surrounding your blocks of text.

Check out some of your own favorite retail sites to prove the point. For instance, this screen shot of Amazon‘s home page has lots of white space. See how the page is laid out in blocks, each separated from the others.

In particular, notice how easy it is to create a focal point when you use white space. Visitors’ eyes are drawn immediately to the center of the page, where Amazon features its Kindle readers. It’s the white space that makes them pop.

The majority of your consumers rate the credibility of a business on their first impression of its visual design.

Which means that bad design can hurt your business more than good design can help it.

In particular, avoid:

	Busy layout or page clutter.
	Small print.
	Too much text.
	Poor alignment.
	No margins.
	Little or no white space.

	Some of you will identify with video games. Some will identify with movie packages and others will identify with CD packs.
	Choose a particular type of packaging you would like to create and create a pack for that object.
	Gamers will need to draw their packs. Movies and CD's may be drawn or may include photos.
	Use multiple examples of the fx tool on your lettering.
	I will be looking for lettering, how your work fits with the backgrounds, and adequate credit information.

Create a set of three pictures which use shapes and objects and tools from the photoshop toolbar. One of the pictures will be purely artistic. Call this pure art.

The second picture will show a fantasy location which again uses shapes and effects from the toolbar. Call this fantasy location

The third picture will be your choice--make this interestingly artistic. Call this artistic choice.

Experimental Designs--Create a set of art works in which you will start with one design. Save that as EXP 1-A. Then make changes to the design by working with filters. Call that exp1-B. Continue to create at least 5 of these pictures with each picture being a continuation of the original work.

Create at least three more sets of these designs. Place them in files called EXP 2, EXP 3 and EXP4.
