Three Dimensional Art

Planned projects for 3-D art

These must be taken in this order and must all be completed.

bullet

·        Cut paper project—Create a picture using a single sheet of paper and a bladed instrument.   Make cuts in the paper and develop the picture making maximum use of the shadows cast by the paper.  The work must have depth created by the folds and cuts of the paper.

bullet

·        $3000 picture—Create a picture using only white tagboard to create a three dimensional picture or work of art mounted on a flat board.

·        Colored mat paper project—Use colored mat board to create a picture similar to the $3000 picture.  The picture must be neat and have a great deal of depth.

·        Cube—create a cube using the pattern provided.  The box must be more than a box with paint smeared on it.   There must be something that makes the box three dimensional and not just a set of flat sides.

·        Geodesic Ball—Create a sculpture (a geodesic ball is preferred) using a minimum of 20 circles.  The ball must be more than a painted ball.  There must be something that makes the surface 3 dimensional beyond the idea of having flat surfaces.

·        Origami—create three dimensional shapes using the rules of origami and instruction sheets provided.  Go to this website and do at least 4 origami projects.  At least 2 must be from the traditional section.  http://www.origami-club.com/en/

·        Clay—Each student will create at least three ceramic pieces.  One will be a portrait piece made by pinching and shaping the clay.  The second piece will be a piece that looks like an object such as a shoe and the piece must have a useful purpose.  The third piece but be an object which may be used for such things as a teapot, sugar bowl, silverware, etc.  We will work for two weeks after which all ceramics will shut down until the pottery is fired and ready for glazing.

Hand—create a sculpture of your hand using scuptamold and an appropriate hand pose.

Facemask—Use a face mold and cardboard from a box to create a face mold with a suitable background.  Use sculptamold as the sculpture medium.

·        Printmaking—Each student will create a set of prints using 4 different techniques.  Foam—use the foam sheets in the back—a small one first to try the technique.  The second will be a large sheet of foam in which the student will create a detailed print using one color for printing.

·        A linoleum print will be made by carving into sheets of linoleum provided by the school.

·        Create a monoprint by creating a picture on a smooth surface.  Place paper on the picture and press the print onto the paper.

·        Create a picture by creating a line drawing on a piece of  plexiglass.  Scratch the design into the board.  Place ink on the board and remove all ink that does not go into the cracks.  Use a damp piece of paper and with pressure, press the paper onto the board to pull up the ink onto the paper.(on foam and also a linoleum print and a monoprint and an acrylic etching)

·        Copper tooling—Get a piece of copper from Mrs. Dulitz.  Create a design in which you press from the back to create marks which go up and press from the front to create marks which go back on the surface.  You are required to use black paint which is wiped off the surface to give an antiqued look.

·        Woodcarving—Receive on piece of balsa wood suitable for carving.  Create an object by carving away anything that does not look like the intended object.

·        Glaze pottery—You may begin glazing your pottery at any time after the pottery is removed from the kiln.

·        Wood sculpture—bags of wood are available to make wood sculptures.

·        Nylon sculpture—Take a hanger and place it hook end first into plaster.  Let the plaster set.  Pull the hanger into an interesting shape.  Cover the hanger with a nylon stocking.  Paint with acrylic paint and then decorate in the style of a famous artist.

·        Structure—create a structure which may be used for a specific purpose.

·        Found Sculptrue—create a sculpture  from objects found in your life.
